Back in 1996 Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt Hollywood were Hollywood’s It Couple, as golden as it gets. That year they became engaged and it looked like they would marry and have the most beautiful kids on earth.

Fast forward to 2020 and both have been in the spotlight ever since, both divorced from other people after not having followed through on their intentions to marry. But for one shining moment it looked like the stars would align and Brad and Gwyn would ride off into the sunset.

Instead, she now runs Goop, her signature brand that sells everything from candles that smell like, well, let’s not go there in a G rated publication, to lifestyle advice. And Brad Pitt? Well, right now he’s not exactly smelling like a rose himself. Brad is involved in an ugly custody case and getting headlines for dating a married woman; did we mention he’s still married himself?

Apparently there’s no acrimony between them as Gwyneth went on record as being grateful to Brad for at least one thing.

After the couple went their separate ways, Gwyneth talked to ABC News about the breakup. In 2003 she gave some insight into what the hunky leading man had taught her.

What did the domestic branding diva learn from her relationship with the Fight Club star? “My kind of internal stuff really tripped up that whole relationship,” she said. “And I felt really responsible, and also like I was the architect of my own misery.”

But she also spilled that while the relationship didn’t last long, she has good memories of that time and retains an important lesson due to Brad’s example.

What was the significant takeaway for Gwyneth back in the 90s? She said that she became more aware of what personal information she would let the public know about herself and her private life.

Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow are in very different places these days

Back then the Iron Man star gave an interview in which she was very candid, saying about marriage after they were engaged, “I take the institution extremely seriously. There are no divorces in my family.”

She noted that they had been together for some time prior to the engagement and that they had a formula for keeping things fresh. According to the star, they simply did not film movies at the same time.

Since that time she has stopped talking about her personal life with the media, and she has Brad to thank for that!
