Hope Spencer (Annika Noelle) and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) intend to split for good on the Bold and the Beautiful. They’re doing so because of all the factors that have led them to this pained decision. But who is most to blame for Lope’s troubles?

It’s hard to tag two people who believe they lost their first-born child. However, to be direct, Hope and Liam should have never traveled to Catalina Island. That enabled Reese Buckingham (Wayne Brady) to employ his baby switch scheme.

So, a purely reactive response, that only looks at Hope and Liam, would hold them responsible, first, for their joint plight. But let’s broaden the perspective, for reasons of balance.

If Reese had never gambled, then Zoe Buckingham (Kiara Barnes) wouldn’t have been threatened. If she had never been threatened, then Reese wouldn’t have felt compelled to sell the healthy-born, not stillborn, Beth Spencer (Isabella de Armas and Rosalind Aune) for a quarter-million dollars.

But that’s what Brady’s character did when he told Steffy Forrester’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) mother Dr. Taylor Hayes (Hunter Tylo) that a private adoption was possible. Flo Fulton, now Logan (Katrina Bowden) went along with Reese’s plan, posing as the birth mother. Both wrongs combined to make matters infinitely worse.

If Flo had been able to overcome her fondness for Reese, as they weren’t even engaged, then she would have been able to think clearly. That was her first mistake, allowing whatever romantic feelings she had about the doctor to fully cloud her good judgment. She enabled his crime. There’s no evidence that exists to confirm Reese could have pushed this lie otherwise.

And then there’s Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson). He’s using Caroline Spencer’s (Linsey Godfrey) death to manipulate Hope into believing that she’s Douglas Forrester’s (Henry Joseph Samiri) only lifeline.

Thomas claims to love Hope. Well, what happens if she doesn’t do everything he wants, assuming they realize a relationship? Or, if Hope ever learns how he’s abused her trust and used his own son?

The subjective nature of who is more despicable, Reese, or Thomas, missed the point. Both people are louts, who are taking advantage of Hope and Liam.
