Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) has a weak spot on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’. Her name is Hope Logan (Annika Noelle).

Noelle’s character has come to believe, through experience, that’s she’s been taken advantage of due to her open demeanor. Toughening up is seen as a sign of growth. But B&B fans know that Hope’s plan to eventually take full custody of Douglas Forrester (Henry Joseph Samiri) is dangerous, rather than simply being the recognition of something else.

Thomas is convincing himself that Hope’s stance is softening. He wants to believe that the woman he still loves remains open to having a life with him and his son. In reality, Douglas is the only Forrester male Hope wants a connection with.

Hope met with an adoption attorney after Brooke Logan Forrester’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) initial plan failed. Hope’s mother had legal papers drawn that were intended for Thomas. Those documents would have had him sign away his legal rights as a parent.

An alternative path has Thomas maintaining his parental rights, while Hope adopts Douglas. She can legally become a co-parent, if Thomas agrees to it.

But Atkinson’s character doesn’t yet know that Hope intends to use the proposed co-parent agreement as a first step. His generally cynical approach is altered because of the deep fondness, which he considers love and others, like Hope and Brooke, see as obsession with his former wife.

Hope’s goal is to separate Douglas from Thomas as soon as possible. She saw that Ridge Forrester’s (Thorsten Kaye) successful stop of Brooke’s plan resulted in Douglas being taken to his great-grandfather’s, Eric Forrester (John McCook), home, where his father and grandfather are also living.

Pasting a false smile on her face, Hope brought some of Douglas’ clothes over to Eric’s house with Thomas’ approval. Then, she agreed to attend a small Halloween party that’s being held for Samiri’s character.

So, what happens whenever and however Thomas realizes that Hope is only playing into his emotions in an attempt to gain full custody of his son?

B&B could be establishing a scenario where Thomas comes to realize that he needs mental health treatment and agrees to relinquish full control of Douglas. That conclusion seems too simple, as little drama could realistically be written in.

The telegraphed next climax feels as though Thomas will be getting his due, which would flip villain status to Hope. How, or if he’s able to respond plays into the building intrigue where Hope and Thomas square off in Round 2. Whether either character realizes control of Douglas’ immediate destiny remains to be seen by the audience.
