What was Finn thinking when he dropped his medical bag and returned Sheila’s embrace in the prison visitor’s room and then told his birth mother that was something he was searching for his entire life?

Steffy felt that Finn was so conflicted that she was not certain how he would respond to whenever Sheila’s next, inevitable drop-in occurs. Viewers know Steffy’s instincts are right because concurrent scenes had Sheila rejecting Deacon Sharpe’s (Sean Kanan) advice that she leaves town.

Sheila told her renewed boyfriend, a still-apt term that is used for couples who behave like high-schoolers when around each other, that Finn’s response to her provides hope. She intends to follow up shortly.

So, Finn could not logically counter Steffy’s dash from their home and marriage because he is not sure of himself.
