No rational judge would have ruled that Sheila deserved anything less than life in prison for what she did to her son and daughter-in-law and included leaving them for dead.

Sheila naively believed she killed Finn and also falsely concluded that Steffy was a goner. The disgusting mix of self-preservation and hubris Sheila displayed, in making the scene look like a botched robbery, led her to believe two lives ended instead of none.

Steffy believes that Finn’s death has forced her into a new and undesired part of life. As Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) said, she will figure out how to handle it. But what Steffy perceives as a different reality does not exist.

She will eventually learn that Finn is alive. That combination of shock and joy will lead to Wood’s character realizing the Sheila problem has not been locked away.

Finn will want to confront his birth mother. But that would happen after he presumably awakens from his apparent coma.
