Steffy sat between Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) and Finn, saying nothing. She knew that Liam’s mild verbal shot at Novlan’s character was part of his long protective efforts.

John let Liam know, in cordial terms, that he didn’t have anything to worry about. Finn assured Liam that Steffy would be taken care of, which was meant to inform Clifton’s character that his role as Steffy’s protector was over.

It’s natural for Liam to want to look out for Steffy. Their shared personal history, which most importantly includes their daughter, and the current positive connection won’t disappear because Finn is the emerging love in Steffy’s life.

But Liam has convinced himself that Finn should have taken note of the warning signs regarding Steffy’s addiction. It’s an unfair assessment, as Finn didn’t spend much time with her after she was released from the hospital.

Liam’s initial belief that Finn should have removed himself from Steffy’s case, due to his romantic interest in her, has taken on a new form. Now, Liam wants to use his highly subjective opinion to badger Finn, with an underlying belief that Steffy’s addiction could have been prevented.

Steffy already evidenced how she can respond to Liam’s overly protective nature. She knows that he’ll need time to adjust to what will be a new dynamic.

Liam isn’t used to anyone holding her heart except himself. That idea was reinforced during Steffy’s recent rant about his abandoning her and Kelly. However, that sword was thrown during the throes of the pain-killer issue.

So, Steffy will need to find a way to help Liam realize that she’s put the past behind her and that the future projects differently. Finn will be in it, whether Liam approves or not.
