In the real world, there are many “functional addicts” who are pros at “playing normal.” They’re very good at pretending and we see that in Steffy. She acts tough and pretends that everything is okay because she doesn’t want anyone’s pity.

Functional addicts do the exact same thing, but avoiding pity isn’t their goal — it’s hiding that they can’t function properly without the drug. It’s rationing the pills so they don’t run out before they can get more. It’s filling the prescriptions at different pharmacies and “doctor hopping.” It’s timing everything perfectly and hiding withdrawal symptoms so nobody gets suspicious.

Thomas seems to be mentally stable, but some viewers can’t stop associating his past behavior with his true nature. On social media, people are assuming that Thomas will feed Steffy’s addiction. That probably won’t happen because, despite everything, Thomas loves his sister.

If Vinny gives Steffy drugs, Thomas won’t react very well. We could see Thomas’s evil side come out, but it will be to protect Steffy.

In addition to dealing with who supplies her pain pills, Thomas will need to get Steffy medical help without creating publicity or a scandal. It’s likely that he will turn to Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), who will know how to safely treat Steffy’s opioid addiction.
