Coronation Street Slammed By Complaints Over Harsh Therapy Comment

Coronation Street “Coronation Street” has received hundreds of complaints about its current fire storyline involving a young child wreaking havoc out of envy towards her father’s new growing family.

Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) endangered her father Tyrone’s (Alan Halsall) new girlfriend Alina Pop’s (Ruxandra Porojnicu) and her unborn baby’s lives when the jealous child lit the flat while Alina was asleep. Although Alina was safe, she lost her boy in miscarriage.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Hope Stape’s Mom Takes The Rap

Corrie fans saw Hope’s mother Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) take the rap to save her child from court sentence. But when she was forced to spend the night in prison, Tyrone exposed their child to the police.

Tyrone’s outspoken grandmother Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) was the one who put words into Tyrone’s mind to tell the authorities about Hope, for she needed “professional help.”

It was in an episode that aired on August 16 when Evelyn made a controversial remark that made hundreds of Corrie viewers unhappy.

After pointing out to Tyrone that Hope needs to see sense, the grandmother commented: “She’s had play therapy, touchy, feely rubbish, new age…”

“But she needs something long-term. Teach her right from wrong.”

Coronation Street Spoilers – Following The Scene, Broadcasting Watchdog Ofcom Received 275 Complaints From Angry Viewers.

Earlier this month, Ofcom released its report which showed Corrie topping the chart with the highest number of complaints received than any other TV show in the last five years.

It is because the soap involved smoking, drugs, and alcohol in its storyline with the Rovers Return Inn as its major setting, outgrowing TV show rivals “Love Island” and “Emmerdale” after collecting more than 300 complaints from viewers.

Play Therapy UK, Play Therapy International Demand A Public Apology From ITV Corrie

Play Therapy UK (PTUK) and Play Therapy International (PTI) have released a press statement claiming that Evelyn’s controversial comment “discounts the effectiveness of Play Therapy and thereby brings the profession into disrepute.”

“[This comment] is totally disrespectful of the successful therapeutic work undertaken by Play Therapists and the children who have successfully accessed Play Therapy to give them a better future,” the statement reads.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Broadcasting

PTUK pointed out that although the “Coronation Street” broadcast was only a fictional representation of Play Therapy, the made statement was still inaccurate.

PTUK/PTI had urged their members to complain to Ofcom, and demanded a public apology from ITV before the next screening of the soap. Keep checking Celebrating The Soaps for more Corrie spoilers, news, and updates.
