On June 4, Friday’s episode, the spotlight shifted to Asha’s plan to prove Corey’s involvement in the recent hate attack that killed Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) and left Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) blaming herself.
The characters bid their last goodbye to Seb earlier this week, with Corey faking his grief at the funeral. Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) overheard him laughing about Seb’s demise in a phone conversation and was about to attack the teen with a broken bottle when Asha stopped and convinced her not to do it. Asha laid out her plans to bring Corey down, and Abi suggested they use drugs to advance her plot.
Coronation Street Spoilers – Caught Red-Handed
Alone in the flat with the wicked teen, Asha tried to convince Corey she wanted to sleep with him. However, the teen was furious at her for wanting to get back together after recently cutting ties with him. Asha explained she’s only acting that way because she’s upset about Seb, and begged Corey not to go.
As Corey acted according to plan, Asha slipped the drugs into his drinks. Soon as the drugs took over, Asha blurted: “Sleep with you? You make me feel sick just looking at you.”
When the bad guy blacked out on the sofa, she took the phone and went through the messages and apps she had accessed with. But as she rummaged for more, Corey’s voice filled the room asking her: “What are you doing?”
Will Corey take another life now that he’s heard what Asha thinks of him?
When Nina spotted Abi waiting outside the flat, she bombarded her with questions and Abi ended up unveiling Asha’s plans. A concerned Nina insisted they should go and check on her. As she protested that it’s not safe for Asha to be alone with the murderer, Abi believed her that anything could happen to Asha if their plans backfire.
Will Nina and Abi come to Asha’s rescue before Corey takes her life?
Coronation Street Spoilers – Behind The Cameras
Speaking with the Digital Spy in a recent interview, the actor revealed he was close to playing Seb when that role first came up.
“It was around two years ago that I had the audition for Corey. At first I didn’t really know how to think about it. I wasn’t in high school at the time, so because the character was younger, and I am quite a tall lad – I’m six foot one – I thought I might look a bit silly in a school uniform,” he recalled.
Contrary to his heartless character, the soap star shed tears when he watched the episode of the horrific Seb attack. In scenes showing Roy Cropper (David Neilson) reacted to Nina’s tragic state had the actor hopped on Twitter to write: “Trust Roy to have me sat here crying. Absolutely heartbreaking.”
Maximus said it was a true honor being involved in the Sophie Lancaster tragedy storyline. Seb’s attack storyline was based on a real story of Sophie and her boyfriend Robert Maltby, who were violently attacked by a group of teenage boys in a park in Lancashire, England in 2007. Unfortunately, Sophie died just days after the attack while Robert recovered with no memory of the attack.
