Coronation Street Spoilers: Evelyn Plummer Gets New Storyline, Roy Cropper Suggests A Job For Her

Coronation Street spoilers, news, and updates tease that Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) will get a new storyline as Roy Cropper (David Neilson) suggests that she return to doing volunteer work. Fans can also expect to see her more on the new Weatherfield Precinct set, as previously hinted by Corrie’s bosses.

Viewers may recall that Evelyn had a brief gig at a local charity shop. She decided to help out briefly to make up for a previous misunderstanding involving the charity shop manager. Evelyn accused Joy of stealing the famous red anorak of Haley Cropper (Julie Hesmondhalgh). It became a major misunderstanding, and she had to make amends by becoming a volunteer worker at the shop.

However, she was unable to bear Joy’s bossy behavior, forcing her to leave the shop. Then, Evelyn felt taken for granted by her family. She took some time away from Weatherfield. She eventually returned, and recently, Roy encouraged her to return to her volunteer work.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Boss Talks About Charity Shop

Corrie’s bosses previously teased that Evelyn would return to the shop and she’ll be seen more regularly at the Weatherfield Precinct. The new set will be the latest addition to its list of the soap’s regular locations. It’s been mentioned by residents for years, but it’s just now that viewers will finally get to see their beloved characters visit the shopping center.

Coronation Street - Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman)

“The thing I’m most excited about is the shop spaces [at Weatherfield Precinct], particularly the charity shop,” Iain MacLeod told the media last year.

“You won’t believe the amount of times a random actor on our show will say ‘I’d love my character to work in a charity shop!” he continued.

“It’s every six months and always the same story pitched: ‘My character would rummage through all the recently-arrived donations then mark all the good stuff down to 50p and buy it for themselves’. There may be a little bit of that,” he explained.

MacLeod added that they want it to become a new iconic destination, and that’s why two of the soap’s most iconic characters will be part of it. They’re excited to see the precinct become as successful as The Kabin.

He considers Roy and Evelyn as idiosyncratic characters who share a massive depth of affection. Neither one wants to admit that because doing so will be considered “un-British and unseemly.”

“This buttoned-up friendship emerges across the course of the phone story, which I’m excited to see,” MacLeod shared.
