Coronation Street Spoilers: Is New Producer Ian Macleod Cutting The Younger Stars Loose?

It looks like fans will have to prepare for quite the shakeup both on and off screen at Coronation Street. In fact, new reports indicate that incoming producer Ian Macleod is looking to make quite a few changes and might possibly let go of some of the younger stars.

The news comes right after it was reported that current Coronation Street boss Kate Oates has been given the boot because of dark storylines. Apparently, Kate was very close with some of the younger cast mates. Ian, on the other hands, wants to give some of the long-serving actors like Bill Roache more screen time and better storylines.

Viewers have also expressed their dismay at the dark and troubling storylines which have not only included Pat Phelan’s multiple murders, but Billy Mayhew’s drug addiction and David Platt’s recent sexual assault.

One source close to the situation said, “Kate was particularly popular with the younger stars. Her departure has left people worried the new producer will want to end the violent stuff and start again. And lots are worried about a cull.”

Some of the younger stars who might get the boot include Katie McGlynn, Colson Smith, Harry Visinoni, and Julia Goulding. So far Ian hasn’t made any comments about what he plans to do or his future at Coronation Street for that matter. Either way, a lot of fans are already worried. Of course, viewers will just have to tune in to find out what will happen next!
