‘Coronation Street’ Star Elle Mulvaney Hints Long-Term Romance For Amy And Jacob

“Coronation Street” star Elle Mulvaney has teased a major development for her character Amy Barlow who might be in the long haul for her relationship with her unlikely boyfriend Jacob Hay.

Elle became the center of a shocker storyline earlier this year as her demure character Amy fell in love with the previous drug dealer Jacob (Jack James Ryan). Their relationship opened the doors to more problems especially when Amy’s family learned about their secret relationship through a horrifying drink spiking incident which put Amy’s life at risk.

Jacob had to come out of the secret and reveal he’s in love with the schoolgirl when Amy’s father Steve Mcdonald (Simon Gregson) accused him of the crime and their exchange ended with Steve’s fist landing on Jacob’s face.

The situation even called Amy’s family to step in including her aunt Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), who’s been through hell because of Jacob’s influence on Amy’s cousin Simon (Alex Bain) to get involved in drugs. Leanne gave her an earful for getting involved with the troubled young man and when Jacob had to face the police for selling fake IDs, with Simon as the one responsible for his arrest, Amy had no choice but to break up with him.

However, the pair can’t resist each other so they strictly made up together again, with actress Mulvaney believing this will be “long term.”

Speaking to Inside Soap, the Corrie star shipped her character’s love team, “I think I want Amy and Jacob to work out because they’re a good-yet-unlikely match,” before teasing Amy and Jacob’s future as a couple, “And it would be nice to see a young couple stay together long-term on the Street.”

Elle also shared her reaction when she was informed that the couple will reunite and said initially she was “shocked” because she hadn’t met Jack that time so she “wasn’t sure how the match would work.” However, after a series of scenes with him, Elle realized that Jack is “brilliant to work with.”

Contrary to Corrie actress Elle’s optimistic view about Amy and Jacob’s romance, her on-screen father Simon Gregson is convinced that it’s best if the pair breaks up.

Although Simon pointed out that Steve understands that his daughter is a “woman” now who wants to take control over her life, he’s also upset as a father “because he wants what is best for her.”

Not only that, actor Simon thought of the youngsters’ relationship “to cause fractures within the family, especially with Simon, Leanne and possibly Peter (Chris Gascoyne).”

“Steve believes that what is best for Amy is ending the relationship with Jacob,” he told Metro. However, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for Amy-Jacob fans, “but maybe he will be proved wrong,” Gregson added. Keep checking back here for more Coronation Street spoilers and news.
