‘Coronation Street’ Producer Teases Stephen Reid’s Future Storyline In The Soap

Coronation Street spoilers, news, and updates tease that the returnee, Stephen Reid, will get darker as he continues his story in the cobbles.

In the previous episode of the longest-running soap, Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) once again stepped foot on the cobbles, leaving the residents to believe that he was a successful businessman in Milan. However, in the last sequence, he was seen using Gabrielle Reid’s card to pay for Audrey’s (Sue Nicholls) afternoon tea with her friends.

Meanwhile, in the pub, Carla (Alison King) opened up to Peter (Chris Gascoyne) and Ken (William Roache) about the newcomer, who showed interest in collaborating with her Underworld business. The two gentlemen believed that Stephen would be a great addition to the company, but Carla felt the opposite.

Somewhere in the cobbles, Sarah mentioned Jenny Bradley as the owner of the Rovers Return and the information struck Stephen as he’s still dealing with a financial crisis. He decided to flirt with the woman, especially since Jenny has gone through relationship issues with Leo (Joe Frost).

In his recent interview with Digital Spy, the executive producer of the longest-running soap, Iain MacLeod, revealed Stephen Reid’s stay in the cobbles. “Desperate’s the word – and he will continue to get more and more desperate, and more and more dark as the story unfolds,” he teased.

According to MacLeod, viewers will see a new image of Stephen – very different from the one they have seen before. “Mischievous is probably too light a term, but certainly Machiavellian may be a stronger word. I think he’s just brought such an injection of otherness into the show,” the boss stated.

MacLeod also teased that Audrey will suffer from Stephen’s villainous acts as she will be emotionally dependent on her son. “Audrey obviously will be a large part of the story. She won’t come to be in any physical jeopardy. I should say, but emotionally the stakes for her are incredibly high because she’s put all her maternal eggs in Stephen’s basket,” he said.

When asked about Todd Boyce’s performance as Stephen Reid, the producer was beyond happy with the outputs the actor has given to the show. The whole production team was glad to welcome him back in Weatherfield, now that Boyce has a dark personality to portray.
