Amber Heard and Johnny Depp Appeals: New Evidence Discovered

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp Appeals: New Evidence DiscoveredAmber Heard hired a new legal team to appeal the verdict in the explosive defamation case brought against Johnny Depp. Daily Times reports that “new evidence is coming to light” in the case. Continue reading and we’ll fill in the blanks.

New Attorneys Take Freedom of Speech Angle

After firing attorney Elaine Bredencroft earlier this week, the Aquaman actress hired attorneys David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown of Ballard Spahr to represent her on appeal.

“When it comes to protecting the fundamental right of Freedom of Speech, we look at the jury’s decision—to paraphrase a famous quote—not ‘as the beginning of the end, but merely the end of the beginning,’” Heard’s spokesperson told E! News.

“A different court warrants different representation, particularly as so much new evidence is now coming to light.”

Out with The Old and in with The New

“We welcome the opportunity to represent Ms. Heard in this appeal as it is a case with important First Amendment implications for every American,” the two new Heard attorneys said in a joint statement, adding, “We’re confident the appellate court will apply the law properly without deference to popularity, reverse the judgment against Ms. Heard, and reaffirm the fundamental principles of Freedom of Speech.”

Rottenborn is reportedly staying on with Amber Heard as co-counsel in the wake of her summer defamation trial. Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, who has reportedly called the moment a “perfect time to pass the baton,” has been cut from the team.

“This is the perfect time to pass the baton,” Bredencroft told E! News. “I have pledged to Amber and her appellate team my complete cooperation and assistance as they move forward on a path towards success.”

Does New Evidence Refer to Unsealed Documents?

According to Newsweek, the “new evidence” Heard is speaking of could be referring to “unsealed documents” released earlier this month. The documents reportedly revealed several key details and events that were kept under wraps during the defamation jury trial.

The 6,000 pages of documents included new details about Depp’s severed finger incident. In addition, there were personal texts between Johnny Depp and Marilyn Manson as well as additional details about Depp and Heard’s divorce settlement.

Social Media Response

The new attorneys representing Heard have been referred to as “renowned First Amendment Attorneys.” Their firm, Ballard Spahr LLP, is reportedly based out of Philadelphia and was founded in 1885. Ballard Spahr specializes in Business and Transactions, Finance, Intellectual Property, Litigation, and Real Estate, per their website.

In a tweet announcing the charge journalist Angenette Levy wrote, “These are the bios of #AmberHeard’s appellate lawyers: David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown to which followers ofter a mixed bag of responses; from, “they’re the best in the country” and “Good luck to them,” to “Agnette, one question, who is paying all this ??? she’s broke isn’t she ? so it’s the #ACLU or some rich man sponsoring this?”

One thing seems certain, both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard seem to be holding on to their supporters, but only time will tell how this pans out for either one. Be sure and stay up to date on this developing story. Return here often for more Johnny Depp and Amber Heard news and updates.
