Amber Heard Ditched Her Legal Team, Hires News Lawyers To Win Her AppealJohhny Depp is now facing a new legal team after Amber Heard recently fired Elaine Bredehoft and hired new attorneys for her upcoming appeal. Continue reading and we’ll give you the lowdown.

Amber Heard  – Some Will Go And Some Will Remain

Deadline reports that Ben Rottenborn, of Virginia-based Woods Rogers Vandeventer Black, will be returning as co-counsel. However, Bredenhoft will not be returning to the legal team for Amber Heard’s appeal. Heard has reportedly ditched the bulk of her legal team and is now turning to the Constitution in preparation for her new appellate fight.

This decision comes weeks after both Depp and Heard attorney’s filed notices of intended appeals. After her ex-husband Johnny Depp was awarded $10.4 million by a Virginia jury following a six-week trial, the Aquaman actress has now picked up attorneys David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown to represent her on appeal.

Amber Heard  – Bredencroft: Perfect Time To Pass The Baton

According to PEOPLE Magazine, a spokesperson for Heard announced she hired David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown of Ballard Spahr to lead. Ben Rottenborn will reportedly continue on as co-counsel.

The Heard spokesperson said in a statement, “When it comes to protecting the fundamental right of Freedom of Speech, we look at the jury’s decision — to paraphrase a famous quote — not ‘as the beginning of the end, but merely the end of the beginning.’ A different court warrants different representation, particularly as so much new evidence is now coming to light,” a spokesperson for Heard said in a statement.

Bredencroft said on the matter of her stepping down as lead, “This is the perfect time to pass the baton. I have pledged to Amber and her appellate team my complete cooperation and assistance as they move forward on a path towards success.”

Amber Heard  – New Attorneys Weigh In

David L. Axelrod is a former federal prosecutor and a first-chair trial lawyer representing individuals and companies in high-stakes civil litigation, reports Entertainment Weekly. Jay Ward Brown, on the other hand, has represented journalists, news outlets, and filmmakers in First Amendment cases.

Together, the two new attorneys on Heard’s new legal team have successfully defended the New York Times in a defamation lawsuit brought by former vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin earlier in 2022.

Axelrod and Brown said in a joint statement, “We welcome the opportunity to represent Ms. Heard in this appeal as it is a case with important First Amendment implications for every American,” adding, “we’re confident the appellate court will apply the law properly without deference to popularity, reverse the judgment against Ms. Heard and reaffirm the fundamental principles of Freedom of Speech.”
