Amber Midthunder Releases Behind-The-Scenes Snaps From The Predator Prequel Prey

Disney recently announced the release calendar for the upcoming “Predator” prequel “Prey”. Following the announcement of the movie’s release date, 24-year-old Amber Midthunder posted a snap from the movie, celebrating the increased representation of indigenous Americans in “mainstream movies”.

The next installment in the “Predator” franchise, entitled “Prey”, is starring the Native American actress Amber Midthunder, best known for appearing in 2021’s “Ice Road” starring Liam Neeson and for her role in the series “Legion”.

The predator is landing back on Earth in the colonial era to do some world-class hunting. What stands between the highly evolved alien and the people of Comanche Nation is a skilled warrior, who is desperate to protect her people.

The upcoming movie will premiere on Hulu in summer 2022, per the announcement made on Friday during Disney+ Day.

“Set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, the action-thriller follows Naru, the skilled warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator,” a plot summary released by Disney reads.

“Prey” will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, whose last project was 2016’s “10 Cloverfield Lane”. His previous works include directing the pilots for “The Boys” and “The Lost Symbol”.

Trachtenberg originally came up with the idea for the movie in 2016, and since then, the movie has been in production, though it was first known as “Skulls”.

This will be the first “Predator” movie since Shane Black’s 2018 film “The Predator” performed poorly and was ill-received by lots of fans and critics.

While “Prey” is being produced by 20th Century Studios, Hulu will be distributing it in the U.S., with Disney+ Star handling international territories.

The sci-fi thriller will be produced by Jhane Myers, a member of the Comanche Nation. The first Predator movie premiered in 1987, with Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the lead character. It has since been followed by four sequels, as well as two spinoff films, 2004’s “Alien vs. Predator” and 2007’s “Alien vs. Predator: Requiem”.

“Prey” will be taking fans back to 1719, where the arrival of an advanced alien threatens the Comanche Nation.

Midthunder celebrated the announcement of the movie’s title and release date on Instagram, sharing an image of herself in combat stance with the franchise’s extraterrestrial alien lurking behind her in the shadows.

“I’m beyond words feeling proud, humbled, and excited to finally be able to share this news and have been given this opportunity,” Midthunder wrote in the caption. “It is time we see ourselves represented fully in mainstream entertainment. As strong and human, by our own people. I can’t wait for you all to see what we made this summer. Ʉra ako & pilamaye.”

The news was also well-received from her fans and friends, including her “Roswell, New Mexico” costars. “So proud of you seester! HERE SHE COMES,” wrote her onscreen sister Jeanine Mason. Tyler Blackburn commented on the post with heart-eye and clapping emojis and Heather Hemmens wrote, “Omggggggggg.”

The “Priceless” star, who is a member of the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe, has previously discussed the importance of representing Indigenous Americans in entertainment.

“To have a Native character and have it be female and strong I think it’s just important for Native people to see,” she told Aubrey Plaza in July for Interview. “For my family, or people on the reservation, I think that the more we see our own people doing things that we want to do, the more it breaks down the mental barrier to access.”
