Backstreet Boys AJ McLean Is Finally Working On His Mental Health And Marriage

AJ McLean and his estranged wife Rochelle are currently working on their marriage after announcing in March that they would be taking a break. It’s a step in progress, and the couple are hoping to come out of this journey as the best versions of themselves.

AJ McLean – Says He And Wife Are “Doing Therapy Together”

One of the members of the Backstreet Boys, AJ McLean, is doing everything he can to save his 11-year marriage and keep his family together.

In a chat with TMZ at LAX on Monday, the star publicly addressed he and wife Rochelle’s rocky marriage for the first time.

“We’re pushing to be the best version of us that we can and to be the best husband and wife we possibly can for each other,” McLean, 45, said, adding that they still talk everyday despite the distance and that he “loves” his family.

At the end of the day, McLean is hoping that after this time, he and his family can find themselves at a “better place.” He also revealed that he’s personally seeing a therapist, as well as doing therapy together with his wife.

For McLean, the separation has been a “journey of self-exploration. I’ve never really done this journey since I got sober, and now is my time,” he said. “I’m a little late — 45 years old — but you know, better late than never.”

At the moment, McLean is on tour with his band members, but that hasn’t stopped him from following up on his therapy.

“I’m staying sober and I’m just focusing on myself,” he said. He also admitted that he did drugs and alcohol just to avoid having “to deal with [his] own demons. I’m dealing with it [now].”

In March, McLean and Rochelle shared that they would be taking a break from each other, in hopes that it will be temporary.

“Marriage is hard, but worth it,” they said in a joint statement. “We have mutually decided to separate temporarily to work on ourselves, and on our marriage with the hope of building a stronger future. The plan is to come back together and continue to nurture our love for one another and our family. We ask for respect and privacy at this time.”
