Bestseller and winner of an Emmy award? Not bad for the former president of America, Barack Obama. He’s actually an Oscar and Tony away from being a full blown-on EGOT, now that he’s received his first Emmy for narrating Netflix’s “Our Great National Parks”.
Former US President Wins An Emmy For Narrating Netflix Documentary On Preserving National Parks
Barack Obama, 61, won his very first Emmy Award on Saturday when he was named as the outstanding narrator for his work on the Netflix five-part documentary series “Our Great National Parks”.
Produced by Higher Ground, which is owned by Obama and his wife Michelle, as part of a larger deal with Netflix, the docuseries defines the work he did as president expanding and establishing protections for more than 550 million acres of public lands and waters in the U.S.
“When humanity started to protect these wild places, we did not realize how important they would become,” Obama said in the trailer. “They’re a haven for endangered species and a hotbed for scientific research.”
During the series, Obama fondly talked about visiting national parks with his wife Michelle, 54, Malia, 24, and Sasha, 21, whilst he was still in office.
“We were so confined in the White House,” Obama said in a clip. “Every time we had one of these trips, and you suddenly could see reminders of what this planet has to offer and emotions that were stirred … I would always come back feeling different in a way that no other experiences gave me.”

To add to his shiny new Emmy, Obama has previously won two Grammys for his spoken word album in 2006 for narrating his audiobook for Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance, and again in 2008 for The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.
He is also the holder of a Nobel Peace Prize and his creative works, which is only just ramping up, could throw him in the line of a Tony and/or Oscar award in the future.
Even though his production company, Higher Ground, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2020 for American Factory, Obama was not included in the award.
