Ben Affleck HURT By Negative Backlash After Howard Stern Interview

Ben AffleckBen Affleck recently opened up about his 10-year marriage to Jennifer Garner and the internet is responding furiously to his claim that he would have remained a drunkard if he was still married to Garner.

It turns out the internet, like always, is taking things way out of context and Affleck wouldn’t want his kids to be getting the wrong message.

Social Media Drags Affleck For Saying Marriage To Garner Made Him an Addict

The “Justice League” star, who is currently dating singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, shared the lowest points of his marriage to Jennifer Garner in a recent interview with Howard Stern. He said that his marriage situation to Garner got so bad that had they not split in 2015, “I’d probably still be drinking.”

“It’s part of why I started drinking,” Affleck told Stern. “Because I was trapped.”

The pair announced their breakup a day after their 10th anniversary and it took almost two years before they finally filed for divorce.

Ben Affleck said that during that time, he and Garner fought to make it work because of their three children: Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, 9.

“We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer,” he said. “Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids.”

Affleck has previously been open about his struggle with alcohol addiction.

“I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?'” Affleck said. “What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”

Social media users voiced their anger at what they felt was blaming Garner for his addiction and not taking responsibility for his actions. The backlash was obviously loud enough for Affleck to try to shout it down.

On Wednesday, he appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to clarify his statements.

Ben Affleck Explains the Internet Misread His Words To Make Him A “Stupid Awful Guy”

Affleck explained how hurt he was when he found out that his “honest” interview had been turned upside down and used as “clickbait”.

“They had, literally, taken the conversation I had for two hours and made it seem as if I was saying the exact opposite of what I said,” he said. “I had gone on and said, like, how much we respect each other and cared about each other and cared about our kids and put them first and went through our stuff. And they said I had blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism and that I was ‘trapped’ and just made me out to be the worst, most insensitive, stupid awful guy.”

He added: “It’s not true. I don’t believe that. It’s the exact opposite of who I am and what I believe.”

Both Garner and Ben Affleck have spoken about their collaborative approach to co-parenting several times.

After Kimmel observed that talking about the topic makes him riled up, Affleck admitted, “It hurts my feelings, man.”
