In a statement, this past Tuesday by Vivian Thoreen, an attorney under the employ of Holland & Knight LLP, who represents 68-year-old Jamie Spears, the interests of Britney were taken care of as the courts ensured that the assets were regularly checked to keep them in good condition.
Britney Spears News – The Conservatorship Arrangements
She revealed that the details of the conservatorship deal were adhered to, which involved her father and a private company jointly managing an estate belonging to Britney Spears. The arrangement was in place until early 2019 when her father became the sole conversation after the court granted the pop star’s request that her father assumes control.
However, the private company appointed by the court continues to manage the Conservatorship of her Person. According to Vivian, this is all in a bid to ensure the right things are done.
She further stated that her client, Jamie, always looked out for Britney’s interests as part of the conservatorship arrangement, as he cared and loved her as any father would regardless of being her conservator or not.
The statement from Jamie’s lawyer comes in the wake of comments recently made by senate members representing Ohio and Florida, Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Matt Gaetz, concerning conservatorship. They proposed a bill to allow people to have control of their assets without the interference of a family relative.
Britney Spears News – Jamie Loses Out On Becoming Sole Conservator Of Britney’s Estate
It will be recalled that in 2008, the 39-year-old singer was placed under conservatorship with the court appointing her father as the principal conservator of her person, with attorney Andrew Wallet as the co-conservator of her estate. In 2019, Wallet left his role as co-conservator of her estate.
In September 2019, Jamie stepped down as the conservator of her Person, citing health issues. A licensed conservator, Jodi Montgomery took up the role.
In a move to prevent her father from becoming the sole conservator of her estate, Britney filed a petition in court to oppose the motion. She said she preferred it was managed by a qualified private company, nominated Bessemer Trust Company in another petition later filed by her lawyers. The nomination was supported by her mother, Lynne Spears.
In November 2019, Bessemer alongside Jamie was appointed as co-conservators of the estate by Judge Brenda Penny of the Los Angeles Superior Court.
A petition was filed last month by the legal team of Jamie Spears challenging the delegation of duties between him and Bessemer. Judge Brenda ruled in favor of Bessemer continuing their duties as conservators of the estate.
Further hearings on the case are scheduled for March 17th and April 27th.
