Britney Spears finally came back to the music world with a little help from her friend Elton John. And their duet, Hold Me Closer, became an immediate success. The track soared to the top status on iTunes. And Britney shared her appreciation to her fans. “Thank you to my fans for making my song number one for a week now,” wrote the songstress on Instagram, reported Bustle.

And Elton John feels just as grateful. Calling himself a “lucky man” at age 75, the Yellow Brick Road singer reflected on what the duet success means. “Seventy-five years of age and having the time of my life,” gushed Elton. “And it proves that you can still be modern and be old at the same time.”

However, the singer also offered some advice to others who want to follow in his footsteps. And he shared the key to aging gracefully. “Care to take an interest in what’s going on,” advised John. And his interest in Britney Spears turned into duet magic. But the Rocket Man singer also expressed his concern for Spears.

Elton noted that he feels “really happy” for the duet success. “Because having her on this record is such a gas, for start,” explained John. “But this is someone who has been through hell, who needed some love in her life.” And Elton shared that he feels the songstress needs “a lot of love from a lot of people and she’s getting it.” 

As a result, Elton has sought to make interviews focus on Britney’s musical talents. For instance, the singer reflected on what it means that her duet came only after a six-year silence from Spears. Having broken through with new music at last, what does the future hold for the songstress?

John reflected on the possibilities for Britney. “She hasn’t been in the charts for a long time,” admitted Elton. “But she’s warming up, she’s defrosting, as I say.” And ultimately, the iconic singer praised Spears for enjoying herself. Although Elton doesn’t know when they might collaborate again, he cares mainly about Britney healing.

“And she’s having a great time,” added Elton. “I don’t know when I’m going to see her or when I’m going to talk to her next,” he clarified. “But it doesn’t really matter. The more the record does, the more it will help her heal.”
