Catherine Zeta-Jones Joins Netflix The Addams Family

Catherine Zeta-Jones The Addams Family Reboot spoilers and updates tease that Catherine Zeta-Jones takes on the role of Morticia Addams in the new live-action series titled Wednesday.

Zeta-Jones, who’s known for her roles in Chicago and The Mask of Zorro, will be the third actress to take on the role following Anjelica Huston in the iconic 1991 film The Addams Family and Charlize Theron in the 2019 animated remake.

Catherine – Zeta Jones Reunites With Guzman

The actress will be reuniting with Luis Guzman, whom she worked with in Steven Soderbergh’s crime drama Traffic in 2000. Guzman, who also starred in Narcos, will play Gomez Addams, Morticia’s husband. Meanwhile, Jenny Ortega of Stuck in the Middle and Jane the Virgin has been tapped for the role of Wednesday.

Andrew Mittman, Jonathan Glickman, and Gail Berman will be executive producing for the upcoming show. The new series will have eight episodes, which will focus on Wednesday’s student years at Nevermore Academy.

The Addams Family Franchise Focuses On Wednesday

Netflix’s official description says Wednesday will attempt “to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.”

Netflix’s director Teddy Biaselli and his team feel responsible for getting Wednesday’s character right for both new and old fans. He’s confident that they will do the character justice as she prepares herself for adulthood.

The reboot, which is a coming-of-age comedy, was announced back in February. It’s directed by Tim Burton and written by Miles Millar and Al Gough, who are known for their work in Smallville.

Tim Burton Directs Wednesday

Wednesday will be Tim Burton’s first live-action show. It’s also his first time directing a TV series. Biaselli previously revealed that they were impressed by Gough and Millar’s pitch for Wednesday.

“They nailed the tone, the spirit, and the characters, but gave us a fresh way into this story,” he said. He then shared that Burton, who’s been a lifelong fan of the Addams Family, got in touch with them and said that he wanted this series to be his television directorial debut.

With stories like Edward Scissorhands, Lydia Deetz, and Batman under his belt, Burton will surely bring something new and unique to the story of Wednesday.
