Will Smith recently has sought to promote his newest movie, Emancipation. And the actor admitted that he worried about the possibility that the Oscars scandal involving Chris Rock could hurt ticket sales at the box office. But what Smith probably never expected: Rock himself viewed the film.

However, Chris shared that he watched Emancipation for a very shady reason. Find out why. And discover the link between that reason and Will slapping Chris at the Oscars below.

Chris Rock – Views Will Smith’s Film ‘Emancipation’ After Oscars Slap

Ever since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, Smith has faced a backlash. And the fallout included his film Emancipation.

However, that movie, which stars Smith as a slave who left a plantation, just got an unexpected mention by another celebrity. And Chris Rock revealed that he decided to view Will’s movie, according to the Insider.

However, Rock also threw shade in revealing his motivation for watching Emancipation. And he announced, “The other day, I watched ‘Emancipation’ just so I could watch [Will Smith] getting whipped.” The comedian made the joke during an appearance at the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore.

And insiders shared that Chris’ comment came as he sought to experiment with jokes about Will for his Netflix special. However, in the aftermath of that infamous Oscars slap, Rock has occasionally made other sarcastic comments about Smith during his Ego Death World Tour. For instance, the comedian described Smith as practicing “selective outrage.”

Chris Rock – Chooses Netflix Special Name Based On Will Smith

Netflix chose to give the comedian its first live-streamed program. And that decision reportedly stems from the theory that Rock held back most of his views on Smith for such an opportunity. Chris even chose the name for his Netflix special, “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage,” from his description of Smith.

Sometimes referred to as Slapgate, the scandal took place after Rock made a comment about Jada Pinkett Smith’s unusual hairstyle. However, Chris reportedly did not know that Jada suffered from a condition that caused hair loss. And after Smith slapped him, Rock shared, “People who are in the know, know that s**t had nothing to do with me.”

However, Will blamed his emotional outburst that included slapping Chris on “rage” that he had bottled up for some time. And Smith later apologized to Rock in a YouTube video. But despite that apology, Chris chose not to make any formal comment about the scandal. As a result, fans watched his Netflix special to see his views.

And they appeared satisfied with what they heard. For instance, one Twitter follower posted, “Just watched #ChrisRockLive. Brilliant! The end segment is well worth waiting a year for. I applauded and cheered in my armchair .” And another shared, “@chrisrock live on @netflix deserves an #Oscar .Great job Chris!! You humored and educated us at the same time!! #ChrisRockLive.”
