Christopher Nolan Reveals He Retired From Directing Superhero Movies

Christopher Nolan is done directing movies with heroes in dark suits, cape, and bat ears, and every other thing in between. He’s very much at home with projects like “Oppenheimer.” So, what kind of movies will we be expecting from one of Hollywood’s biggest directors in the coming years?

Christopher Nolan Opens Up About the Kind of Movies He Doesn’t Want To Make

At 52, Christopher Nolan is not planning on retiring, but he is now more selective about the projects his name gets attached to. I mean, I’m sure if I was Christopher Nolan I would be thinking the exact same thing.

In a recent interview, Nolan expressed his disinterest to helm another superhero movie, especially not after concluding his three epic runs reincarnating the dark knight for our viewing pleasure.

Previously, Nolan had expressed his desire to stay away from television series that aren’t innovative, and revealed that he once passed on working on the “Star Wars” franchise.

“The Dark Knight” Trilogy Premiered In 2005 With Christian Bale As The Caped Vigilante.

It returned in 2008 as “The Dark Knight,” with “The Dark Knight Rises” completing the franchise in 2012. Last year, Bale, 49, revealed that he won’t be returning to play the popular DC hero unless Nolan was involved.

“I had a pact with Chris Nolan,” Bale told ScreenRant last year. “We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

Nolan’s latest project “Oppenheimer” sees him reuniting with Cilian Murphy, who he worked with on “Inception.” Murphy plays the movie’s main character, J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who played a key role in developing the first nuclear weapons used in World War II.

The all-star cast features other big names like Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, who came out of his break for the movie, and Robert Downey Jr.

Downey, 58, praised the project as “the best film I’ve ever been in.”
