Cillian Murphy Reveals His Thoughts On Playing Doctor Doom: “You Never Know”

You may, or may not, remember Murphy as the scarecrow in the Dark Knight trilogy – you probably might not because he had a bag over his head, and yet he was able to bring the villain to life in ways we never could have imagined.

Cilian Murphy Reveals Whether He Wants To Play Another Marvel Supervillain

During his recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor set fans at ease by saying that he’ll be up for playing the character if the script was good enough to thrill him.

“It’s always about the script… You never know,” the actor stated. “This business is so unpredictable and wild… You never know what’s gonna turn up.”

Murphy’s name has been tossed around to play the villain ever since Marvel announced that Fantastic Four will be joining the MCU. While the film was originally planned to begin filming in early 2024, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused production to be delayed, so no one knows yet who will be joining the cast and who wouldn’t.

At the moment, since there’s been no reported progress between the participating parties, it’s possible that the Matt Shakman-helmed movie will be delayed even further.

Fun fact: Murphy originally auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy, but lost out to Christian Bale. However, Murphy may have lost out on playing the caped crusader, but he’s not bitter about it. In fact, he’s grateful that the role went to a more worthy actor, who faithfully portrayed the character.

“I think it was for the best because we got Christian Bale’s performance, which is a stunning interpretation of that role,” Murphy said. “I never considered myself as the right physical specimen for Batman. To me, it was always going to be Christian Bale.”
