Colin Farrell Tells Hugh Grant About How He Deals With Being Less Popular Than Their Glory Days

Change is about the only thing that’s constant about our world. The stars of the 60s, 70s, 80s and so on have been replaced by newer ones.

There was a time when Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant were all the rage, now when we talk about cool male movie stars, we talk about Tom Holland, Timothée Chalamet and John Boyega.

Luckily, Farrell, even though saying it’s a wonderful experience to have a great big audience love a movie he’s in, is not too worried about his diminishing fame.

Colin Farrell – Reveals What It’s Like To Live In Your Post-fame Days

Colin Farrell is past the stage of taking the lead in big box office movies – a semi-starring role in one of 2022’s top movies “The Banshees of Inisherin” means he’s not completely faded from the spotlight.

However, there was a time when the Irish actor was the face we always wanted to see on our screens. Where did those days run off to?

Speaking with his “The Gentlemen” co-star Hugh Grant as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Farrell said, “I don’t feel part of it at all, the whole fame thing, celebrity thing. I mean when I was looking to get me first American film, then it all went mad so fast for me and I had a period of maybe five or six years of incredible fame and recognizability and all that. That was madness. That’s since gone.

A few films that didn’t quite work at the box office. And I’m really, god, having films that are seen by audiences if they’re good and they connect is a wonderful thing, but I’m glad that period of madness is over for me in my life.”

Colin Farrell – Has Never Been Part Of The Celebrity Culture

He didn’t take his fading fame to heart. “I don’t feel part of what people could, if they bother to waste 30 seconds and think of my life, they could imagine my life to be parties and red carpets and stuff. Two or three times a year I may stamp on a red carpet and do some interviews or this kind of thing – I’ve never done this before – but outside of that, social media I don’t have. I feel very outside of it.”

In the light of this, the actor also revealed that he doesn’t consider what will make him famous when choosing the movies he’ll appear in these days.
