Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have heard the incessant chattering about Nepotism and Nepo babies.
Well, Dakota Johnson for one has heard enough of that and she bared her thoughts on that during her recent appearance on the Wednesday episode of “Today” show.
The 34-year-old has made it clear that just because you were born by famous parents and you eventually turn out famous too doesn’t have to be because of the family you come from. Some of them had to scratch and claw their way through the top, and she, Dakota is one of those who didn’t have it easy.
During her appearance at Saturday Night Live back in January, Dakota whose parents are Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson joined forces with the “Please Don’t Destroy” team John Higgins whose dad is SNL producer Steve Higgins, and Martin Herlihy whose dad is former head writer Tim Herlihy to make fun of the nepo babies talks.
Dakota Johnson — Dakota Thinks The Topic Is ‘Incredibly Annoying And Boring’
The “Fifty Shades of Grey” star who has been promoting her new movie “Madame Web” for weeks told “Today” host Hoda Kotb on February 7 that the controversy surrounding nepo babies in the entertainment industry is “incredibly annoying and boring.”
She continued, “Like, if you’re a journalist, write about something else.” This came after she was asked about her SNL Nepo Baby roast. She went on to add, “That’s just like, lame. So the opportunity to make fun of it, I jumped at.” Dakota also shared how she was cut off her parents’ payroll because she wanted to toe the same career path with them.
She told Hoda how she informed her dad that didn’t want to go to college but wanted to go straight into acting, “He cut me off. He said if you go to college, you still get an allowance. And I was like, ‘Well, I’m going to be an actress.’ So he was like, ‘Alright, well you’re on your own. I was cut off.”
She continued, “I did some little modeling jobs that helped me pay my rent. And then I started auditioning and got some jobs.” She also shared how things became hard for her after she was cut off, “I definitely had moments where I couldn’t afford groceries and had to ask my mom to help me. She was the nice one.”
Dakota had her first acting gig in 2010 when she landed a role in the movie, “The Social Network.” Five years later, she had her breakout in “Fifty Shades of Grey” film trilogy.
