Daniel Craig: “Why Should A Woman Play James Bond?”

For the fifth and final time, Daniel Craig will be gracing our screens in the newest James Bond Franchise cheekily bearing the title “No Time To Die”. If you think the next James Bond movie is long overdue, I think so too. But these days, it’s not just the newest James Bond that’s got fans excited, it’s the fact that Craig won’t be playing the iconic role anymore and, of course, the whispers and the rumors that come with it.

Even recently, former GMB talk-show host Piers Morgan imagined himself playing the popular character. Let’s just say that Bond’s fans are not very happy with the surmise. But while we’ve all got our own opinions to give concerning who should play the next Bond (by the way, I think the role would suit me just fine since I’ve been told I look good in a suit), what exactly does Daniel Craig aka James Bond aka 007 think of his next replacement?

Daniel Craig Pitches For A Leading Black Character

While even Daniel Craig is not yet privy to the knowledge of who will be filling his famous shoes, or maybe is and won’t tell us even if we held him at gunpoint, he’s not petitioning to have an actress step in. Why? Craig believes that James Bond is specifically built around a male persona.

“There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color,” he told Radio Times (via the BBC). “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond – but for a woman?”

At one point, rumors started growing that Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) would be taking over as Bond in the latest franchise “No Time To Die”. The rumors were further fueled with the addition of Phoebe Waller-Bridge to the writing team.

It later turned out that Lynch only stars as a fill-in MI6 Agent Nomi while Craig’s Bond languishes in a self-imposed exile. However, sources are predicting that Bond’s producers are not likely to drop Lynch anytime soon.

As for Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s contributions to the writing team, Craig is convinced that while she “spiced it up”, she wasn’t ready to change the show’s direction as a long-time fan of the franchise.

Craig officially said his goodbyes to the cast and crew in a preview clip released the previous week from the upcoming Apple TV documentary “Being James Bond”. “I’ve loved every single second of these movies and especially this one, because I’ve got up every morning and I’ve had the chance to work with you guys,” Craig said. “And that has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”

“No Time To Die” will premiere in the U.K. on Sept. 30, and in the U.S. on Oct. 8.
