David Letterman’s Return To Late Show Has Been A Long Time Coming

David Letterman is coming back to the Late Show and he’s making demands, or should I say one very awesome demand. The National will perform on the Nov. 20 episode, which will mark his first appearance on the show in years.

David Letterman To Appear As Guest On Show He Hosted For Many Years

David Letterman is returning to the Late Show, but he’ll be the one sitting on the guest chair for a change, and he will be interviewed by none other than his replacement Stephen Colbert. Colbert enthusiastically announced his return last week.

“On Monday, I will be joined, right there, in that chair, by a man who is no stranger to the Ed Sullivan Theater, though I know for a fact he has not been here for eight-and-a-half years, because my guest is Mr. David Letterman. Boom,” Colbert shared with fans on Instagram.

David Letterman's Return To Late Show Has Been A Long Time Coming

Since leaving the show in 2015, Letterman has made appearances in other late-night television shows, including Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Night With Seth Meyers, as well as making an appearance on the final episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden earlier this year.

Monday’s Appearance Will Be The First Time He’s On The Show He Launched On CBS Back In 1993 Since He Originally Left It.

To celebrate the return, he was given the honor of choosing the musical act.

“When David Letterman reaches out to ask if you’ll join him as the musical guest on his first return to The Late Show, there is only one answer… See you on Monday,” the band wrote on social media.

Earlier this year, Letterman praised the band, calling them “your saddest friend’s favorite band.” Why? “I say that because I love the National, and I wish I could be Matt Berninger because nobody’s cooler than Matt Berninger. They ought to be in the Hall Of Fame,” he told NME.

News of Letterman’s return comes on the heels of the announcement that he and his former bandleader Paul Shaffer will raffle off the Late Show With David Letterman marquee. The money raised will benefit Habitat for Humanity.
