Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills (RHOBH) star Denise Richards‘ ex-husband Charlie Sheen has stayed out of the spotlight for years. But now the actor feels ready for his comeback.
Find out what Sheen shared about quitting both drugs and alcohol. And keep reading to learn how the daughters that he shares with Denise helped Charlie become sober.
Charlie Sheen Stops Drinking
From talking about tiger’s blood to describing himself as “rock star from Mars,” Charlie Sheen acquired a reputation as an eccentric celebrity.
But for the past six years, Denise Richards‘ ex husband has avoided the spotlight. And Charlie told People that he focused on raising his 14-year-old twins instead.
But Sheen also sought to become sober. And after years of battling alcohol and drug addictions, the actor feels apologetic for his past. However, Denise’s husband also takes pride in becoming “six years sober.”
And Charlie described his new lifestyle as “very consistent. It’s all about single dad stuff, and raising my 14-year-old twin boys Max and Bob.” The twins’ mother, Sheen’s ex-wife Brooke Mueller, also has struggled with addiction.
Charlie Sheen Becomes A Devoted Single Dad
And as the single dad to the twins, Sheen now gets up early to tackle his new lifestyle. “Now I wake up early, around 4:30 or 5 a.m., get an early jump on the news, work out, answer emails,” reveals Charlie. And then he wakes up his kids to “help them with their morning routine.”
But Denise’s ex husband admits the contrast between the days when he woke up to begin drinking alcohol. And he confessed that he “loved drinking in the morning. Loved some scotch in the coffee.”
But a drunken morning binge in 2017 motivated Sheen to transform his life and become sober. And he recalled, “One morning I’d forgotten my daughter had an appointment I’d promised to drive her to. And I’d already had a couple of pops that day,” he admitted.
Charlie shares two daughters with his ex-wife Denise: Sami, now 19, and Lola, now 18. And he called a friend to take his daughter to her appointment. But Sheen recalled his humiliation and heartbreak over the situation.
Charlie Sheen Preps For Hollywood Comeback
And he shared that he called his “friend Tony to take us. We got her there on time,” commented Charlie. “But it broke my heart because she was in the backseat and I could just tell she was thinking, ‘Why isn’t dad driving?’ So I got home and sat with that for the rest of the day. And the next morning I just stopped.”
And so Sheen followed up quitting drugs with quitting alcohol. But at first, Charlie decided to give going cold turkey from alcohol “a month, just see if I feel any better,” he recalled. “And if my interactions with those that are closest to me improve.”
And when his relationships improved, “it got traction. I had momentum. There was just instant evidence that this was the side I needed to be on. I couldn’t be in denial about it anymore.”
But after all those years away from Hollywood, Sheen feels ready for his comeback. For instance, he took on a guest star role on Chuck Lorre’s new dark comedy Bookie. And Sheen hopes that his fans will welcome his return.
But Charlie also feels “proud of the choices that I’ve made and the changes I’ve made to live a life today that will never look like that mess,” he added about his years as an addict. And the actor calls that time period “some alien version of myself.”
