Dolly Parton Downplays Her Part In Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine Success

Dolly PartonDolly Parton news shows that humble mega star Dolly Parton is down playing the role she had in funding Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine. In an interview with Absolute Radio Country on Monday, the country singer said that she, “probably gets a lot more credit,” than she deserves for donating $1 million dollars to the cause.

In 2021 she donated the money to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. At the time she noted that the hospital had been, “good to her and her family through the years.”

The country superstar went on to say, “When the pandemic came out, I just felt led to do something because I knew something bad was on the rise and I just kind of wanted to help with that, so I donated to help with that.”

She added, “So, mine was a small part of course, but I probably get a lot more credit than I deserve. But I was happy to be part of that, and to be able to try stop something in its tracks that’s really become such a monster for all of us.” Parton went on record to say that she received her first Moderna vaccine in March and the second shot in April.

Late last year Moderna announced its vaccine may be up to 94.5% effective against the virus, and mentioned the country singer in their statement.

The report was published in the New England Journal of Medicine, and stated that the work was supported by the, “Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund (Vanderbilt University Medical Centre),” along with other entities.

At the time she told BBC’s The One Show, “I’m so excited about the news. I heard that yesterday and I didn’t realize that was part of the program that I was part of. So I feel very, very honored and proud.”

When Parton donated $1 million dollars to Vanderbilt Hospital last year, they named the fund, “Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund.”

She said of Vanderbilt, “It’s been good to me and my family through the years so I donated $1million and they called it the Dolly Parton Covid fund. So out of that they actually got more money and it just started developing and they were developing all these wonderful things.”
