Emily Blunt Explained That Tom Cruise Advice Was “Taken Out Of Context”

About a week ago, the star of “The Devil Wears Prada” Emily Blunt shared her experience during her time filming “Edge Of Tomorrow” with Tom Cruise.

Blunt recalled the difficulties she faced while filming the sci-fi movie. “It was my first foray into action, and as Tom said, rather unreassuringly when we started it, he goes, ‘This is the deep end of action for me.’ And I was like, if you’re saying that, then we are in trouble.”

She also recalled how she was able to get over the difficulties with the help of Cruise. Something about the advice given to Blunt by Cruise during that time caused a ruckus from her fans.

In a conversation with the “Smartless” podcast, with hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, the actress explained that they were made to wear heavy metallic costumes that weighed over a ton.

“We had to wear these really enormous robotic suits, which I think it would have been great if they could have CGI’ed them, but we wanted to do it practically and in a tactile way. When you hear the word tactile, you’re like, that sounds nice and cozy. There was nothing cozy about wearing these suits.” Said Blunt.

She said she found it difficult to execute her roles. Blunt shared that the costume was so heavy that the minute she put it on, she couldn’t stop herself from crying in front of Cruise.

Blunt explained that the suits weigh “like 85 pounds. It was so heavy that the first time I put it on, I just started to cry in front of Tom.”

Blunt also said that when the “Mission Impossible” actor saw her crying, he stood there not knowing what to do. “He just stared at me and was like, ‘I know, I know,’ and I was like, ‘I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot,’ and I started to cry,” she said. “I was like, ‘I’m just feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot.'”

That was when Cruise dished the advice which Blunt took heartily “He literally goes, he stared at me for a long time not knowing what to do, and he goes, ‘Come on, stop being such a p—y, OK?’ And I did laugh, and then we got through it.”

Unfortunately, what Blunt took to be a joke wasn’t seen that was by critics.

Emily Blunt’s – Reaction To Critics

After hearing what critics had to say about Cruise being harsh to Blunt with his “advice,” Blunt took to her social media to explain that the whole story was greatly misconstrued.

She explained that Cruise never made those comments to make her feel bad but it was rather the opposite. “I absolutely adore Tom, he’s a dear friend and he was a total gem to me. It was said as a joke to make me laugh, which it did in a big way.”

Continuing she said, “It’s ludicrous that it’s being spun as something that offended me. It didn’t. I shared the story as lightheartedly as it was meant by Tom. And it’s still something we laugh about to this day.”
