Emma Roberts Responds To Britney Spears Biopic Casting Rumor

Emma Roberts expressed that she would consider herself “lucky” if she had the opportunity to portray Britney Spears in the upcoming film about the pop star’s life.

This sentiment follows recent news of a biopic inspired by Spears‘ 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. Felicia Culotta, who worked closely with Spears for many years as her assistant, mentioned to TMZ that Roberts, 33, would be a fitting choice to play Spears, now 42, in the adaptation.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Roberts shared her excitement about the suggestion: “I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. It’s a rumor, but I hope maybe it’ll come true.”

Roberts has always been a fan of the pop legend, having gained recognition for her appearances in American Horror Story and Scream Queens.

As she considered how much she admired Spears, she thought back to the occasion when she holed herself up in her room to learn every word from her 2003 album, In the Zone.

Roberts also revealed that she frequently sings Spears’ hits to Rhodes, her three-year-old son, when they are taking a bath. “I’m always like, ‘God, he must think I’m so weird.’ That’s some millennial parenting,” she humorously noted.

Adding a personal anecdote, Roberts recounted a memorable birthday when her mother, Kelly Cunningham, and aunt, Julia Roberts, surprised her with a phone call from Spears. Initially thinking it was a prank, Roberts hung up, only to realize it was indeed Spears.

“I was — still am — the biggest Britney Spears fan,” Roberts explained, recalling her excitement and asking to speak with Spears again. Kelly Ripa humorously chimed in during this recollection, joking, “Star 69 or whatever.”

Universal Pictures Secures Rights To ‘The Woman In Me’ And Spears’ Secret Project

Universal Pictures announced on August 1 that it had secured the rights to The Woman in Me after a highly competitive auction. Jon M. Chu, known for directing Wicked, will helm the film, with Marc Platt serving as the producer.

Despite the excitement surrounding the project, no official casting decisions have been made yet.

On the same day, Spears posted on X, sharing her enthusiasm: “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.”

Details About The Forthcoming Biopic

Details about the biopic remain limited, but it is expected to chronicle Spears’ life from her early days in Mississippi and Louisiana to her rise as one of the world’s most iconic pop stars.
