Emma Watson Explains Her Relationship With Tom Felton In New Memoir

What started as a mere crush blossomed to become something more. They can’t define what it is but, it’s unbreakable. It’s no secret that Emma Watson who starred as Hermione Granger in the famous Harry Potter franchise has a huge crush on her co-star Tom Felton who starred as Draco Malfoy in the same film. The two met on the set of the film – when Emma was 9 years old, and Tom 12 years old. The two’s friendship had a rough start but finally kicked off, and has continued to wax stronger as they grew.

When Emma revealed that she was once in love with Tom, fans went wild because they knew the two to be such great friends, they also knew that Tom loves Emma dearly. Due to how close the two turned out, fans couldn’t help but wonder why they never dated each other or ever kissed because it’s obvious those two have a strong bond, their relationship never went all the way.

While discussing Tom’s new Memoir “Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard” which was released on Tuesday, Oct. 18, Emma said that the relationship she shares with Tom is one which the two always find hard to explain whoever they were asked. Emma explained that she and Tom have loved each other in a different kind of way for over 20 years, she defined it as a special kind of love that was just natural and pure from both sides. She went on to say that she thinks Tom is her soulmate.

“It’s one of the purest loves I can think of. We’re soulmates, and we’ve always had each other’s backs. I know we always will. It makes me emotional to think about it.” Said Emma. Speaking more about her friendship with Tom the actress said, “Sometimes it feels hard to live in a world where people are so quick to judge, to doubt, to question intentions. Tom doesn’t do that, I know that, even if I’ve made a mistake, he’ll understand that my intention was good. I know that he’ll always believe me. Even when he doesn’t have the whole picture, he’ll never doubt that I’m coming from a good place and will have done my very best. That’s true friendship, and to be seen and loved like that is one of the greatest gifts of my life.”

Tom on the other hand, once said that he loved Emma like a sister “But there was more to it than that,” Tom continued. “I don’t think I was ever in love with Emma, but I loved and admired her as a person in a way that I could never explain to anybody else… We were kindred spirits. I know for certain I’ll always have Emma’s back and she’ll always have mine too.”

Remember that Emma and Tom’s relationship had a rough start, here’s why. In Tom’s memoir, Tom expressed the one thing he did to Emma back when they were still kids that he still regrets to date. The clique in the Harry Potter movie was divided into two, the one Emma belonged to which consisted of Emma, Daniel Radcliffe (who starred as Harry Potter), and Rupert Grint (who starred as Ron Wesley), and the one Tom belonged to which consists of Tom, Slytherins Jamie Waylett (starred as Vincent Crabbe) and Josh Herdman (starred as Gregory Goyle).

Tom said that he and his cliques see themselves as better than Emma’s clique, they thought they were cooler so they don’t bother hanging out with the rest of their co-stars, in Tom’s memoir, Tom said, “We’d spend our free time together listening to rap music — Wu-Tang, Biggie, 2Pac — so when word reached Josh and me that 9-year-old Emma had put together a little dance show in her dressing room that she wanted to present to us at lunchtime, we were predictably dismissive.”

“We sniggered our way down to Emma’s show, and the sniggers grew louder as she danced,” Felton recalled. “We were just being shitty boys, largely out of awkwardness and because we thought taking the piss was cool, but Emma was visibly upset by our thoughtless reaction. I did feel like a bit of a dick, and rightly so.” Tom said that after he spoke to the women in their makeup department, he apologized to Emma.
