The entertainment world rocks with shock today as folks mourn the loss of Eric Dane (Dr. Mark Sloan), from Grey’s Anatomy. Of course fans also know him from Euphoria as Cal Jacobs. Read on for the sad details.

A Difficult Fight

Page Six reported about the death that happened on Thursday afternoon. While many folks who don’t watch shows like Grey’s Anatomy didn’t know about it, he talked about it soon after his diagnosis in April last year. And, that explains why he seldom got out and about in recent months.

The outlet cited his family as saying in a statement:

Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight.

Additionally, heartbroken folks close to the Grey’s Anatomy star said that Eric Dane “adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received.”

Saying Goodbye, The ‘McSteamy’ Legacy

Of course, Eric’s choice to dedicate his last year to advocacy for the ALS cause seemed very commendable. Naturally, life as he knew it before, changed completely. Still, “McSteamy” went about his work with loads of determination. Plus, he managed to shoot the last few scenes of Euphoria while affected by the disease.

Generally speaking, the majority of fans on social media agree that the character of Mark Sloan seemed like a wonderful and outstanding one among so many others in the cast. Certainly, he made people think highly of him as Mark Sloan. Simply taking a shower seemed so authentic. Not to mention him playing his role as a dad.

What’s Next For His Legacy?

Everyone knows that shows must go on despite the heartbreak and loss. That’s the way the entertainment business works. However, for fans, an unforgettable era in television comes to a close. Fans remember him for many reasons from shows like Charmed and his appearances in primetime hits.

Eric Dane was busy putting the finishing touches on his autobiography. Supposedly it would launch later this year, but he won’t see it, unfortunately. No doubt, when it launches, the book brings a glimpse of the real Eric: the man behind the famous TV doctor.

Fans Will Miss Him

It is never easy for the fans to accept that their favorite actor passed away, no matter how old they are. Already, admiration for him shows across social media.

On Reddit, one fan penned, “God that’s awful. ALS seems like a very nasty disease.”

Well, plenty of people spoke about him, and sadly, others related to ALS because their own loved ones passed from it.

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • I saw a post by Mickey Rouke the other day on IG (I went back to look and he deleted it) that said Eric was in the hospital so I was kind of expecting this, but so devastating for his daughters.
  • I worked with Eric for a few years. He was truly a really nice guy, and is the second person I’ve known to die from ALS in the last few years.
  • Oh wow. That was so fast . I’m so sorry for his family and children. RIP
