Eva Longoria said that it’s hard to make it as a female director in Hollywood. Even though she has plenty of industry credits to her name, the brunette beauty said that she’s slowly but surely learning that directing is definitely a different ball game.

The Young and the Restless alum put it this way, “We don’t get a lot of bites at the apple. My movie wasn’t low-budget by any means — it wasn’t $100 million, but it wasn’t $2 million. When was the last Latina-directed studio film? It was like 20 years ago. We can’t get a movie every 20 years.”

In her interview with Variety, Eva went on to say that male directors who fail at the box office the first time around get more opportunities to make films than female directors who fail to make any traction with their films.

She explained, “The problem is if this movie fails, people go, ‘Oh Latino stories don’t work…female directors really don’t cut it.’ A white male can direct a $200 million film, fail and get another one. That’s the problem. I get one at-bat, one chance, work twice as hard, twice as fast, twice as cheap.”
