Can you believe that it’s been six months since the verdict to the defamation case that broke the internet was given? The case saw the former exes, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, explore the darkest parts of their lives together.
At the end, Depp emerged victorious on all three counts of his defamation case, leaving Heard indebted to him. Since then, there’s been rumors that “Aquaman 2” was delayed because producers were looking forward to cutting her time on the movie.
Meanwhile, Depp, whom she accused of abuse, has made several high profile appearances at some of Hollywood’s elite events, including the 2022 VMAs.
As a result of this “vilification” against Heard, several feminist organizations around the world have banded together to sign an open letter supporting the actress.
More Than 130 Feminist Leaders Condemn the Public Shaming Of Amber Heard
Feminist leaders from over a hundred organizations, including Gloria Steinem and Women’s March Action, supported an open letter calling for the vilification of Amber Heard to cease.
“We condemn the public shaming of Amber Heard and join in support of her. We support the ability of all to report intimate partner and sexual violence free of harassment and intimidation,” the letter read.
Following Amber Heard’s loss, several women came out to say that her loss was inevitably “women’s loss”.
“The reaction to this trial just reinforced why so many survivors stay silent. Not only do we fear retaliation from the person who abused us, but we fear being ostracized and harassed by others as well,” Bell Abesti, a former survivor of DV and an organizer of Wednesday’s open letter, stated in a press release announcing the letter’s publication.
“I personally know women who have reconsidered reporting after seeing what happened online to Amber Heard,” Abesti added.
