“Game Of Thrones” Returns With A Mysterious Action-Packed Trailer

Game Of ThronesYay, fans of “Game Of Thrones” have a lot to look forward to. It’s not often that a series ends and fans still get to have a taste of the world that has become all too familiar to them throughout the series.

I know, “Vampire Diaries” gave birth to spin-offs like “The Originals” and “Legacies” even when it was still running, but while character spin-offs of “Game Of Thrones” are yet to enter production, a prequel has been announced already. And you thought you wouldn’t be able to see Westeros in the near future.

Lust For the Iron Throne Fuels The Storyline For “House Of The Dragon”

If you thought “Game Of Thrones” was brutal, you’ve got to watch out for “House of the Dragon”.

The new trailer reveals a time when the Targaryens ruled the Iron Throne and the bloodlusty means they employ to retain power amidst the opposition.

King Viserys Targaryan (Paddy Considine) opens the trailer by revealing a dream he had, which could very possibly be a premonition.

“The dream… it was clearer than a memory,” he says. “And I heard the sound of thundering hooves, splintering shields and ringing swords, and I placed my heir upon the Iron Throne.”

“And all the dragons roared as one,” the King continued, amidst flashing scenes that more or less coincided with his words.

A Queen has never sat on the Iron Throne before, but the king doesn’t want to choose between his only daughter and his brother. When the time comes to pick a heir, he knows his decision will mean risking war within the lands. But even more stranger things are afoot, because the dragons will be fighting, but on which side?

“House Of The Dragon” Trailer Teases Troublesome Times For Westeros As The King Chooses His Daughter Over His Rightful Heir

“I consider the matter urgent, that of your succession,” Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) said in the clip, addressing the matter of the King having a firstborn daughter, which would mean he would have to relinquish the throne to his brother.

But King Viserys resists the tradition by wanting to make his daughter, a woman named Rhaenyra Targaryan (Emma D’Arcy), his heir.

“No queen has ever sat on the Iron Throne,” Lyonel Strong (Gavin Spokes) reminded the king. “The king has an heir — Daemon Targaryan.” Viserys responds: “I will not be made to choose between my brother and my daughter.”

Rhaenyra, the king’s daughter, is soon made to understand that no woman has ever sat on the Iron Throne. She then promises to change the old order when she becomes Queen.

The story is based on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 novel “Fire & Blood”. The creators of the series Martin and Ryan J. Condal set the time as 200 years before the events that transpired in “Game of Thrones”, which ran on HBO from 2011 to 2019.

“House of the Dragon” premieres Aug. 21 on HBO Max.
