‘GMA’ Fans Call Out Michael Strahan For Mocking Robin Roberts

'GMA' Fans Call Out Michael Strahan For Mocking Robin RobertsThe chemistry between Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts is one of the highlights of Good Morning America. Their dynamic, full of friendly jabs and shared laughs, is part of what keeps viewers tuning in. But every now and then, one of those jokes hits a little too close to home — or at least, makes for some TV gold.

A Historic Moment Turns Playful

During a recent live segment from Vatican City, where Strahan was reporting on the death of Pope Francis at age 88, the former NFL star took a lighthearted jab at his longtime co-host.

While reflecting on his experience covering such a historic moment, Strahan turned the conversation toward Roberts — and a memory from over a decade ago.

“You’ve been here before,” Roberts pointed out as they spoke about his visit. That’s when Strahan brought up her 2013 meeting with the Pope, throwing in a comment that caught everyone’s attention.

“Yes. Not my first time, Robin. I know you have been here before,” he said. “I did not get to meet the Pope as you did when you proclaimed that you were from America.”

Michael Strahan’s Playful Mockery — And Robin’s Quick Response

The remark was clearly meant to be playful, but what sent the moment into viral territory was Strahan’s mock accent.

Putting on a subtle Spanish twist, he echoed Roberts’ pronunciation of “America” from her earlier meeting — a tongue-in-cheek nod to the fact that Pope Francis hailed from Argentina, making him the first pontiff from the Americas.

And while Strahan made it clear there were no hard feelings — “I had to throw that reference in there about being from America. But you know I love you,” he said — Roberts didn’t let it go that easily.

“Oh no, no no, don’t try to clean it up now!” she shot back, clearly enjoying the moment. With a laugh, she added that Strahan somehow managed to “give her a hard time” even when he was “thousands of miles away.”

George Stephanopoulos, sitting beside Roberts, could barely contain his laughter during the exchange.

Closing the Segment With More Laughs

Strahan continued to playfully walk the line between apology and comedy: “I don’t know how I would have reacted if I saw the Pope,” he admitted, before tossing things back to the studio with one final cheeky flourish. “I just want to say you guys are the best, and we’re all team players and I am throwing it back to you in America.” Once again, he rolled his R’s for emphasis.

Roberts, grinning, offered the last word: “He is just digging himself out of that hole.”

In typical GMA fashion, the moment was a blend of reverence and realness — with Strahan and Roberts reminding us why their on-screen bond works so well.

Their ability to poke fun at each other, even in the middle of covering a monumental news story, is the kind of camaraderie that makes morning TV worth waking up for.
