Goldie Hawn Isn’t Married Because She Doesn’t Want A “Messy Divorce”

Have you ever seen a more candid person than Goldie Hawn? In a recent interview, the star revealed the reason she doesn’t want to get married to longtime partner Kurt Russell. And she didn’t care to sugarcoat it. To hell with wedding bells and aisles, I guess.

Goldie Hawn Asks CNN’s Chris Wallace Why She Should Get Married

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are Hollywood’s most enduring couples, and for over 40 years, they’ve charmed audiences with their on-screen and off-screen love story.

It might be surprising to know that they’re not even married, and guess what? They’re not planning to be any time soon.

In a recent interview with CNN, Chris Wallace asked the star why she’s not married to Kurt Russell, even after spending four decades together. To which Hawn replied, as bluntly as possible, “Why should we get married? Isn’t that a better question?”

When Wallace pressed her for a better answer, she said that it’s because they’ve both agreed they don’t want to go through a bitter divorce, and as a result they’ve put marriage in the back burner.

“Because we had been married,” Hawn said. “And because when it doesn’t work out, it ends up to be a big business. Somebody has to own something.

It’s always ugly. Somebody has to actually take a look and say how many, how many divorces are fun? How many divorces actually don’t cost money? How many divorces make you even hate the person more than you did before? How many divorces have hurt children?”

Before Hawn’s relationship with Russell kicked off, she was first married to actor-director Gus Trikonis for seven years. After the marriage failed, she went on to marry Bill Hudson, the father of her children Oliver and Kate Hudson, but the marriage also ended in divorce after six years together.

In 1983, the duo reconnected on the set of “Swing Shift.” Russell has a son from a previous family, and the two blended their families.

“I like the idea that I can wake up in the morning and make decisions every day if I want to be here,” Hawn continued. “Relationships are hard,” she said, “They’re not always easy. There’s all kinds of hurdles that we go through. There’s things that we believe in, things that we don’t believe in, things we agree on. So I think, you know, ultimately staying independent with independent thinking is important, so you can hold on to yourself.”
