Justin Bieber – All We Know About Justin Bieber’s Ramsay Hunt Syndrome Diagnosis

On Friday, the global superstar revealed that he’s suffering from a rare neurological disorder.

The “Justice” singer asked his fans for prayers as the growing paralysis caused by the Ramsay Hunt syndrome is increasingly disturbing his daily activities.

During the announcement, Bieber told fans: “This is pretty serious as you can see.”

Due to the disease, the popstar was forced to postpone three shows on his Justice World Tour earlier this week.

The 28-year-old filled his fans up on the reason he cancelled the shows. He also explained the physical effects of the diagnosis.

“Hey everyone. Justin here. I wanted to update you guys on what’s been going on,” Bieber said. “Obviously, as you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome, and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis.”

He explained that he’s finding it increasingly hard to blink one of his eyes, move his nostril or smile on one side of his face. In an update he also shared on his Instagram Story, he said that it’s “progressively harder to eat.”

Furthermore, Bieber asked for positive thoughts and prayers from his hundreds of millions of fans.

While there’s every chance that a person diagnosed with the disease can make a clean recovery, Dr. Amit Kochhar, MD, board-certified otolaryngologist (ENT) and director of the Facial Nerve Disorders Program at Pacific Neuroscience Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, said that there’s a chance of lingering symptoms.

He said that 75% of patients have been known to recover completely, while the the other 25 percent “will develop some type of longterm nerve damage.”

However, these side effects only occur in patients who take too long to recover.

“There’s no way to know who’s going to develop longterm issues,” Dr. Kocchar said, adding: “If they recover within the first three to four weeks, usually they’ll have a pretty good chance of a clean recovery.”
