Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith‘s marriage is far from the traditional type, but they’ve kept it working since their separation in 2016.

Last year, the couple’s marriage was brought into sharp focus when Will Smith hit comedian Chris Rock for making fun of his wife’s shaved head.

It didn’t only become one of the most biggest moments in pop culture, it cost Will Smith his role as a member of the Oscar’s voting committee, not to add that he was banned from attending the award ceremony for ten years. Whatever he lost that day, at least he earned his wife’s love and admiration.

Jada Pinkett Smith has made her feelings clear regarding Will Smith’s reaction to Chris Rock’s joke at the Oscars. Like the rest of us, Jada actually believed that the whole thing was a skit at first.

However, even at the height of the backlash of the slap, Jada continued to condemn Will’s action.

Speaking to hosts Lauren Laverne and Alex Jones on The One show, the star shared that even though she condemned the action, it aroused in her feelings she didn’t know she could still feel for Will.

Jada said: “I knew it was going to be an intense reaction. And that was the moment that I decided that I was going to stay by his side. You know, it’s funny how intense situations can amplify love, and it was a pretty difficult time, but it definitely drew us closer. So yeah, it’s, crazy how things work.”

She added: “I would say that Will and I have decided to be in a relationship that fits what we desire, and so, we had our separation and then the Oscars came and we are definitely on a different trajectory. But I will not say that it’s in a traditional way, for sure. We decided to be together in a way that works for us.”

Prior to the Oscars slap, Jada shared that she couldn’t imagine anything “in a million ways” making Will Smith get up onstage on her account.

Speaking to Red magazine, she added: ‘That’s when your relationship gets deeper than romance or all the c**p that comes with marriage. I was just really concerned about Will. And I realized in that moment that, as challenging as our relationship can be, I’m always going to be by his side, no matter what.”
