Jenna Ortega On Embracing Goth Culture In Her Style

Jenna Ortega is the perfect Wednesday, in style and personality. If you’ve watched the hit Netflix series “Wednesday,” one of the things that will endear you to the main character is her twisted sense of humor.

In real life, Ortega has always felt the urge to tell dark jokes but only just kept herself back. Being Wednesday onscreen has, however, allowed her to unleash that side of her personality, and she’s happy for it.

Jenna Ortega On Ways Playing Wednesday Changed Her

Jenna Ortega recently sat down for an interview with Vogue, where she talked about her iconic and much-beloved role as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series, “Wednesday.”

“I’ve always respected goth culture,” Ortega, 20, said of the show’s influence on her wardrobe. “I’ve always had a darker sense of humor, but I never felt like I was able to express that. Now I feel like I can embrace those qualities in myself.”

And you can’t deny that the star is in her Wednesday-era and that she’s loving it. At the numerous award shows that she attended following “Wednesday’s” massive success, she’s rocked some clothes that Wednesday herself would be proud of – I’m remembering the all-black Versace gown that she wore to this year’s SAG awards. Apart from influencing her wardrobe, the show inspired her to be more adventurous with her hairstyles.

“Up until then I was really, really attached to my long hair,” Ortega said. “Changing it encouraged me to be more adventurous; to experiment and be more creative in that way.”

“That was really exciting,” she told Vogue. “I felt like I was really encouraged to be myself — I felt throughout the entire process that I could go with my own gut instinct and do whatever felt authentic and natural to me.”

Jenna Ortega – On Staying Grounded Following Increased Media Attention On Her Life

“Wednesday,” like “Squid Game” before it, was a hit immediately it premiered. With the massive success came increased press intrusion into Ortega’s life, but she handled it like a pro by surrounding herself with people that’ll keep her sane through the chaos.

“It felt like a whirlwind maybe more at the end of the year when the show initially came out,” she said. “I feel like I tried to avoid the chaos as much as possible and keep myself surrounded by people that I love and know, and I think that they kind of helped ease my nerves.

I’ve felt my life change, but I think I’m more focused on my work than anything, which kind of has made it a bit more of a seamless transition.
