It was once one of the most popular sitcoms on primetime television, but not everyone thought that it was funny. Of course, we are talking about “Friends,” which ran for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004 and starred David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and more. And now Jennifer is opening up about the show and responding to some of its harshest critics. Here’s what you need to know.

Jennifer Aniston – Responds To Her Harshest Critics
Apparently some of the jokes that were told on Friends back in 2003 just don’t sound as funny to some of the viewers who are now watching it in 2023 and Jennifer is certainly aware of that.
She said that while comedy has certainly changed over the years, that doesn’t mean anyone should discount or even cancel work that was done many years before. As many fans can recall, Jennifer played upper middle class ‘spoiled girl’ Rachel Greene on the show.
Jennifer says that she understands that comedy now has to be more clever than slapstick. In a new interview with the AFP, Jennifer put it this way, “Now it’s a little tricky because you have to be very careful, which makes it really hard for comedians, because the beauty of comedy is that we make fun of ourselves, make fun of life.”
She also added that years ago, “you could joke about a bigot and have a laugh — that was hysterical. And it was about educating people on how ridiculous people were. And now we’re not allowed to do that. Comedy has evolved, movies have evolved. There’s a whole generation of people, kids, who are now going back to episodes of Friends and find them offensive.”

Jennifer Aniston – Says That ‘Everyone Needs Funny’
The Hollywood star continued, “There were things that were never intentional and others… well, we should have thought it through — but I don’t think there was a sensitivity like there is now. Everybody needs funny! The world needs humor! We can’t take ourselves too seriously. Especially in the United States. Everyone is far too divided.”
