Jennifer Aniston Reveals ‘Friends’ Reunion Was Brutal

“Friends” alumnae Jennifer Aniston has reflected on their reunion earlier this year and revealed it was more melancholic than they anticipated, calling it “brutal”.

“Friends” fans were hyped to have seen their favorite main cast of the sitcom that turned into a pop-culture phenomenon that dominated television from 1994 to 2004, including Aniston who played Rachel Green, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, Courteney Cox as Monica Geller, Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, and David Schwimmer as Ross Geller all convened in the same set were they used to act to talk about the impact of the show in their reunion back in May.

It was reported that HBO Max, which commissioned the special, paid each cast member $2.5-$3 million to join the reunion as their celebratory show, which was recorded in April to look back on their important scenes with James Corden as the host.

Aniston has recently reflected on the reunion while speaking to Rob Lowe on the “Rob Lowe’s Literally” podcast and explained how going back to the set made it surprisingly hard as the reality that a lot of things have changed since the show ended in 2004 hit her hard.

“Going back there, it’s nostalgic in a way that’s kind of also a little melancholy, you know… we have all gone down different roads, some easy and some not so easy for each of us… it was brutal, and also you can’t turn it off,” Aniston explained.

The actress recalled that although there were cameras everywhere, she couldn’t hold her tears and revealed there was a period where the cast was “all kind of in a puddle” that even LeBlanc “broke” at one point. “You know, Mr. Tough Guy… Even he got a little misty,” she teased.

“Friends Reunion” — Everything Has Changed But It’s Still The Same

Aniston explained how the celebratory show took them down way harder than they expected, because their natural reaction was that it was fun to time travel, but it turned out painful.

“Because you’re going back to a time and, mind you it is, when I say the set was put back exactly, it was the exact same everything – down to the little tchotchkes on the shelves and little tiny things that had been in a storage space this whole time,” she said.

“All of a sudden, here you are. And, you know, 16 years, a lot has gone on for each of us,” she added.
