Jennifer Aniston looks back on her life in a new interview to reflect about relationships. And the Friends star admits that seeing her late father, Days Of Our Lives star John Aniston, go through a divorce impacted her own love life.
Find out what Jennifer shared about her parents’ divorce. And learn about her focus now. Get all the details below.
Jennifer Aniston – Discusses Her Parents
Going through a divorce at any age causes families to struggle. But for Jennifer Aniston, her parents’ problems in their marriage occurred at a young age.
As a result, Jennifer feels that her own personal relationships suffered, reported People.
And at 54, Aniston feels ready to discuss how she experienced challenges in relationships. Because of her mother’s and father’s warring dynamic, the Friends star felt “kind of alone,” she admitted.
And watching her late mother, Nancy Dow, and late father, Days Of Our Lives star John Aniston, made Jennifer hesitate about getting into relationships.
“I didn’t like the idea of sacrificing who you were or what you needed,” explained the actress. “So I didn’t really know how to do that.” As a result, Jennifer felt it seemed easier to go solo than participate in the “give-and-take” of a relationship.

Jennifer Aniston – Reflects On Failed Marriages
However, the Friends star shared that she wants to learn “to say what you need and what you want. And it’s still a challenge for me in a relationship,” confessed Jennifer. “I’m really good at every other job I have.”
But Aniston also shared that she grew up “in a household that was destabilized and felt unsafe.” As a result, Jennifer learned how to manage life when it didn’t go her way. And she commented, “I guess I have my parents to thank. You can either be angry or be a martyr, or you can say, ‘You’ve got lemons? Let’s make lemonade.’”
As for her failed marriages, Jennifer and Justin Theroux shared their split in February 2018. The two had remained married less than two years. And prior to that, Jennifer’s marriage to Brad Pitt lasted from 2000 to 2005. However, Aniston feels that she made a “choice” with the end of her marriages.
Jennifer Aniston – Won’t Let ‘Fear’ Impact Relationships
But the actress claimed that she decided to focus on happiness. “And when they came to an end, it was a choice that was made,” shared Jennifer about her marriages to Justin and Brad. “Because we chose to be happy,” she added. “And sometimes happiness doesn’t exist within that arrangement anymore. But at the end of it, this is our one life,” pointed out Jennifer.
And the actress shared that she will not stay in a marriage based on fear. “And I would not stay in a situation out of fear. Fear of being alone, of not being able to survive. To stay in a marriage based on fear feels like you’re doing your one life a disservice.” As a result of her experiences with actors, however, Jennifer hopes that her next romance will involve someone outside of the entertainment industry. And she added, “That’d be nice.”
