Jennifer Lopez Is Finally Sharing Her And Ben Affleck’s Sweet “Second Chance Love Story”

Jennifer Lopez is ready to celebrate her love story with the world, especially since it’s not every day that someone gets to have a second chance to be with a person that makes them “happy”.

The singer, actress and businesswoman graced the cover of PEOPLE’s upcoming Valentine’s Day issue and chatted about her “beautiful love story” with Ben Affleck.

Over the last few years, the star has managed to rise above the stress imposed on her by the society and the press in order to reach a mentally healthier and happier place. A place she said she could only previously dream of.

“I’ve never been better,” the 52-year-old star shared during this week’s cover story. “It’s just that we’re all in a very beautiful moment.”

“I feel so lucky and happy and proud to be with him,” she said about rekindling her romance with one tall happy gentleman, who we may commonly recognize for his roles as “Batman” and “Daredevil”.

She also reflected on having Affleck turn her sun-drenched room into his personal office whenever he’s visiting. “It’s a beautiful love story that we got a second chance.”

It sure is a “beautiful second chance” story, because the couple, who famously were the reason celebrity couples get referred to by a combination of their names, in this case Bennifer, dated from 2002 to 2004, before amicably calling off their engagement. This left so many fans confused at the time, wondering where the “love story” went.

When the pair reconnected last spring and sparks flew, Jennifer said that “they had a little bit of fear”, noting that the press that surrounded their romance the first-time round managed to trample it out. But they aren’t “naive” these days, they’re “older” and “smarter” now.

“We both were like, ‘Wow, we’re so happy and we don’t want any of that to come into play again.’ We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things. We’re so protective because it is such a beautiful time for all of us.”

She added, “I just feel very happy and lucky to be in a relationship that’s happy and loving, and I want to do everything I can to protect that and keep it safe. It deserves that, it really does. … We hold it sacred.”

It has been two decades since the pair’s romance first blossomed and subsequently died, or at least dwindled out into friendship, and Jennifer is aware of the privilege they have to be able to get another chance to fall in love all over again.

“It’s beautiful the way it feels very different than it was years ago. … There’s more of an appreciation and a celebration for it, which is nice,” explained Lopez, who treasures their second chance at love. “When you find somebody and you really, really love them and you get a second chance at that? That is a really rare, precious, beautiful thing and we don’t take it for granted.“

Jennifer Lopez also talked about the tricky bit of involving kids into any new relationship, but added that she’s more than happy to get her children to spend time with Affleck, especially since he’s honest, loving and respectful.

“I honestly believe that love rules all. Love always conquers everything — relationships, kids, work, work relationships. It’s all about how loving, open and accepting you can be. Not having an ego about things and just embracing all the good, always looking at the positive.”

She also called her romance with Affleck “happy and healthy”.
