And Koy noted, “They’re delicious, but goddamn, they’re soft. I just come from a different time,” he added. And the comic noted that he observes “the changes that are happening. I get it. But goddamn, can we f—king laugh at ourselves?”

As for his Golden Globes hosting failure, Koy told the audience, “I got a feeling none of you motherf—kers watched it. And I’m kinda happy. It feels good to live in this country. We get to say what we want to say. Don’t be apologetic about it at all. Be able to…speak your mind.”

Jo Koy Reflects On ‘Whirlwind’

A native of Tacoma, WA, the 52-year-old expressed appreciation for the applause and standing ovation. And Koy said, “This big hug that you gave me is all I need, swear to god. F**king whirlwind, goddamn,” he added of the Golden Globes backlash.

And fans expressed appreciation for how the comedian has become known for saying exactly what he thinks. For instance, Amy Thebeau, 45, expressed appreciation for how relatable the comedian seems. “When you grow up poor in a big family, it’s easy to relate to his comedy. It’s what you’re used to—those big family dynamics.”

But Jo also made the audience laugh in his comments on the weather. “We f**kin’ Uber-ed here! It was four and a half hours. My whole crew, none of them brought parkas. Me? I brought two. You think the snow is CGI? It’s real snow motherfu**er. We’re inside of a goddamn snow globe! We should be dead right now––all of us. If not by the plane, then by the snow,” he added.

But then Koy joked about Hollywood. And he quipped, “The weather is better in Hollywood, but I’m happy to be in this blizzard. When it rains, it pours.”

And Koy also discussed the impact of becoming sensitive to culture. “Here in St. Louis, [you’ve got] people that listen to you, understand you, and understand we’re not all out to attack each other. It’s stupid in LA,” he added. And as he joked with the audience, Koy asked, “You want me to guess what ethnicity you are? No! I already got in trouble this week!”
