John Mayer Has Lost His Spark?

John Mayer recently shared that he was worried his headline tour may not provide the same creative spark as previous ones. He likened the experience to that of riding a bike. However, this turned out not to be the case once he stepped on stage. Later on, he expressed his gratitude that it turned out to be great. He said, “Its every musician’s dream that they would get on stage and the crowd would chant, ‘Deep Cuts’,” he laughed while saying this “I spend so much time worrying that I’m not playing what you want to hear. So thank you”.

The guitarist told the Associate Press that “The music I make is not meant to be loved and consumed only this year” Mayer said “I don’t flip out about the timeline of things because I’m already making a record that sounds like I can wait another 20 years to play Sob Rock. I’m always trying to make music with longevity.”

Currently in his 22nd year in the business, things seem to be going well with John Mayer, not only does he have an easy rapport with his audience, he agreed to do a cover of Beyoncé’s “XO” as well as his own 2007 fan-favorite “In Your Atmosphere” for the crowd and that was after playing his strings on Friday night in San Francisco.

John Mayer “Washed Dishes For Two Years” And Couldn’t Play With His Hands: During the pandemic, John Mayer didn’t play for two years. Mayer told the Associate Press that “It’s not a natural thing to stand on stage in front of people. You don’t think that way when you’re at home for two years.”

He continued: “I was at home for two years, washing dishes, looking at my hands going, ‘well, these hands from time to time played the guitar in front of 17,000 people night.’ I think the one thing that drains out of a performer is just the sense memory of performing.”

John Mayer – At Ease Playing Dead & Company:

A month into his Sob Rock Tour, Meyer said he’s comfortable playing Dead & Company with his former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart.

Mayer said this of the group “It was awfully cozy to play in Dead & Company because I’m not in the center of the stage,” he said. “I have really grown to love that vantage point to musically make those contributions from that place. I wasn’t sure about whether I was going to find that love for it again and then [by] song three I was like, ‘OK, this is not ever going away.’”
