Johnny Depp & Amber Heard: University Faces More Backlash After StatementJohnny Depp & Amber Heard news reveals New York City’s public university has made yet another gaffe according to public sentiment. Per Cinema Blend, after scrubbing a profile of a lawyer who was the youngest to serve on Johnny Depp’s legal team the university received some backlash and now, they’re facing more. Read on and we’ll fill you in on the details.

Johnny Depp & Amber Heard – CUNY Under Fire

Johnny Depp & Amber Heard news reveals that though the legal row between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard may be technically at an end, it seems interest in the case will remain high for the duration. Also notable is that Depp’s attorneys have filed an appeal of their own over his much smaller judgment.

However, at the moment, it seems that the focus is on the university that is only loosely connected to the case. According to FOX News, the City University of New York (CUNY) deleted a profile of a graduate who was the youngest attorney that worked on Johnny Depp’s legal team for his defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard after receiving backlash from students and faculty.

Johnny Depp & Amber Heard – Who Is Yarelyn Mena?

Yarelyn Mena graduated from CUNY’s Hunter College in 2015 and then went on to earn her law degree from Fordham University. Mena was featured in an August 3 profile published in the student-run newsletter CUNYverse. The headline read, “This CUNY grad was the Youngest Lawyer to Serve on Johnny Depp’s Legal Team.”

At 29 years old, Mena was the youngest member of Johnny Depp’s legal team. Though the article in question was intended to highlight the work of Mena as a lawyer, many people reportedly took issue with the piece.

Johnny Depp & Amber Heard – CUNY Responds To Backlash

Tensions are still running high in the wake of the Depp/Heard defamation trial, and many have felt that Mena’s profile after her work on the trial essentially celebrated the man many still feel was guilty of domestic abuse. The backlash that followed the post ultimately ended with the profile being taken down and replaced with the following:

“We appreciate everyone who shared their concerns about an article in our newsletter featuring a recent CUNY graduate who worked on Johnny Depp’s legal team. We understand the strong negative emotions this article elicited and apologize for publishing the item.

“We have removed it from our CUNYverse blog. The article was not meant to convey support for Mr. Depp, implicitly or otherwise, or to call into question any allegations that were made by Amber Heard. Domestic violence is a serious issue in our society, and we regret any pain this article may have caused.”

Johnny Depp & Amber Heard – Only To Face More Backlash

Though the removal of the profile may have calmed things in one area of the web it has incensed them in another. Now CUNY is under fire by those who are now critical that the profile was removed. Among the critics was a professor at another CUNY campus, KC Johnson, who tweeted, “Not a good look for CUNY, to put it mildly.

“(The memory-holed article celebrated the legal acumen of a 2015 Hunter grad, the daughter of two immigrants from the Dominican Republic, who had worked on the Depp case.) Be sure and stay up to date on this developing story and return here often for more Depp/Heard news and updates.
